History of Sonipat
Sonipat is an ancient town of Haryana Sate. 'Sonipat' is also written as 'Sonepat'. Before December 22, 1972 Sonipat was a part of District Rohtak. The District Sonipat come in to existence on December 22, 1972.
From an ancient town believed to have been discovered by the Pandavas during the times of the Mahabharata, Sonepat is today a shining example of a bustling, modern city that is showing remarkable growth in practically all industry sectors.

It is often believed that Sonipat was one of the five Prasths or towns demanded by Yudhishtara from Dhuryodhana as the price of peace. Another tradition as cripes its foundation to Raja Soni, thirteen in decent from Arjuna,s brother of Yudhishtara . Both these traditions are without substance. There is no mention of Sonipat in Mahabharat although it has been noted much earlier by the great grammarian Panini in his celebrated Ashtadhyayi.
